Flute – Degree Programme
A Master’s Degree programme that combines advanced flute performance with a strong humanistic education, designed for students who aspire to become complete and independent musicians. The programme focuses on instrumental technique, historical awareness, and aesthetic and stylistic understanding: from Baroque virtuosity to contemporary repertoire, from orchestral excerpts to chamber music phrasing. An academic pathway that integrates specialised technical and musical skills with humanistic knowledge, enabling students to understand and express music in all its depth.
Equivalent to the Master’s Degree LM-45 in Musicology and Performing Arts with a specialisation in Flute, the programme builds upon and refines the skills acquired during the Bachelor’s Degree. It includes the study of advanced solo repertoire (Bach, Mozart, twentieth-century repertoire, etc.), chamber and orchestral music, Baroque and pre-Classical performance practice, as well as preparation for auditions and competitions. The objectives include the development of an independent artistic identity and the acquisition of the necessary foundations for doctoral studies and teaching activities.
Admission requires a secondary school diploma or equivalent qualification, as well as a First-Level Diploma or equivalent qualification.

The Master’s Degree in Flute is designed as a high-level educational pathway aimed at artistic refinement and professional specialisation. Through intensive solo performance activities, high-profile concert experiences, and advanced cultural training, the programme guides each student towards the development of a mature artistic identity and the achievement of excellence within the international music landscape.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Learning Objectives: At the end of the second year of the Master’s Degree specialisation in Flute, students are expected to have achieved professional-level technical and artistic mastery, with particular emphasis on the in-depth study of the solo repertoire, narrative phrasing, and sound control, including homogeneous tone production, controlled vibrato, precise articulation, and refined dynamic expression.
Particular attention is devoted to Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary repertoire, the refinement of orchestral excerpts, and historically informed performance practices. The programme promotes the development of independent interpretative skills, critical analysis of musical texts, and awareness of historical and stylistic contexts.
Great importance is given to technical and emotional control in public performance, the development of a personal expressive language, and the acquisition of advanced historical, aesthetic, and analytical knowledge at Master’s level.
Special focus is placed on the development of a mature artistic profile, the ability to approach repertoire with originality of interpretation, stage presence, and active listening and interaction within orchestral performance.

MAIN INSTRUMENT COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Prerequisites
- Admission to the Master’s Degree in Musicology and Performing Arts LM-45 through an audition examination.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance and Performing Arts (L-3) or equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated advanced technical and artistic skills.
TEACHING METHODS AND ASSESSMENT
Teaching Methods: Individual ine-to-one lessons.
Assessment Methods:
- Intermediate Examination (MAIN INSTRUMENT PERFORMANCE PRACTICE 1) at the end of the first year. Performance of three pieces with a total duration of approximately 35–40 minutes:

- One short virtuosic piece;
- The first movement of a concerto or sonata from the Classical period onwards;
- One piece for solo flute (Baroque or contemporary repertoire).
- Master’s Degree Final Examination (MAIN INSTRUMENT PERFORMANCE PRACTICE 2) at the end of the second year. A programme lasting approximately one hour, with compositions selected by the candidate in agreement with the professor, representing at least three of the following areas: a) Baroque b) Classical period c) Romantic period d) Historical twentieth-century repertoire e) Modern/Contemporary repertoire (post 1945)
The examination programme must include:
- The first movement of a concerto;
- A virtuosic piece;
- A work for solo flute.
Notes: Arrangements for flute and piano are permitted.
Critical Presentation: A brief written or oral presentation of the performed programme, including analytical, historical, and musicological considerations.
