The educational offer varies depending on the programme. Different study paths are generally available, dedicated to individual musical instruments, singing or chamber music, and can be consulted in the list of active curricula.
How long does the study programme last and how many ECTS credits must be obtained?
The duration and number of credits depend on the level of the programme (the three-year cycle lasts 3 years and requires 180 credits, while the two-year specialised cycle lasts 2 years and requires 120 credits).
Where do lessons and educational activities take place?
All lessons, workshops and related activities are held in the institute’s facilities and classrooms.
In which language are lessons held?
Individual instrumental lessons may be held in Italian or English. For group theoretical courses, the language is adapted according to the students’ backgrounds. In any case, students have the right to prepare exams using texts in either Italian or English.
How much time will I need to dedicate to individual practice?
Each CFU corresponds to 25 hours of overall workload. The study plan requires a significant amount of independent personal study, which is essential for developing the technical, theoretical and interpretative skills necessary for your artistic training.
Does the programme only include instrumental lessons, or does it also include theoretical subjects?
The programme follows an interdisciplinary approach. In addition to instrumental practice, students attend theoretical courses (music history, aesthetics, score reading), workshops and seminars related to artistic production, writing and cultural management. Students may also include elective CFU credits to develop transferable soft skills.
Are students expected to participate in concerts? Is this activity paid?
Yes. Participation in concerts is included within the courses “Performance Practice and Repertoire with/orchestra” and “Ensemble Music Practice”. This activity is regularly remunerated through a recognised scholarship awarded for each individual performance day.
As a general rule, there are no age limits for admission. Selection is based exclusively on the candidate’s demonstrated level of technical, theoretical and artistic preparation.
What qualifications are required for admission?
To access first-level programmes, applicants must hold a secondary school diploma (or an equivalent foreign qualification). For higher-level programmes, a first-level academic qualification is required.
Are there any specific language requirements for international students?
Yes. Non-Italian-speaking students must hold an English language certification of at least B2 level (e.g. Cambridge First Certificate or equivalent) and demonstrate adequate proficiency in the Italian language.
Admission requires a performance exam divided into two stages:
Pre-selection: submission of a video recording (within the deadlines indicated on the Accademia website).
Live audition: by invitation only, starting from September.
What are the rules and criteria for creating the pre-selection video?
The video must have a maximum duration of 15 minutes (free programme), and each piece must be performed in a single take, without cuts or editing. The recording must clearly show the musician’s face, hands and upper body. Videos must not have been recorded more than 8 months before the submission deadline.
Can I submit the pre-selection video via WeTransfer or Google Drive?
No. Downloadable files or password-protected content are not accepted. Videos must be uploaded to online sharing platforms that can be viewed directly through a browser (preferably YouTube or Vimeo), and applicants may submit a maximum of 3 links.
